This is Alexa Mendez
Alexa finds solace in listening.
Stories exist within everyone
If you listen closely
They’ll let you in to see them for yourself
This winter, Alexa finishes her final semester of her journalism undergrad at Humber Polytechnic. In the last four years, she’s worked excessively on news writing, feature and opinion writing, as well as video and audio reporting.
Since her second-year, Alexa has contributed to Humber’s student newspapers Skedline and Humber ETC, reporting about the people and happenings in the community like the local 2025 provincial election candidates or further out, events like TIFF and FAT.
Last summer, Alexa interned at her hometown’s local paper–Cambridge Today–as a News Writer. During her internship, Alexa wrote feature and profile stories ranging between local dance companies catered for seniors to weird bird sightings in the neighbourhood.
Outside the real world with real people, Alexa reads and writes made-up stories of made-up people. In the next few years, Alexa hopes to bring it all together and write a novel of her own.
Alexa is currently working on her senior capstone project–a collection of profiles on why writers write. After graduation, she is seeking opportunities in writing features and opinion pieces on people, the arts and culture.
